Last Sunday Leon’s Furniture of Toronto purchased The Brick headquartered in Edmonton. Both stores offer furniture, electronics and appliances. Leon’s has 76 stores across Canada while the Brick has 230. They will continue to operate their storefronts separately. The move is designed as a combat the imminent arrival of Target to Canada and to strengthen their position against longtime foe Sears. it was called a “friendly”$700 million dollar purchase. In Ontario, two of the preeminent appliance retailers, Tasco Distributors and Goemans Appliances have merged. They have 10 stores in all of the major markets in Southern Ontario. This is truly a friendly merger.
