Pro-Style Cooktop Comparison Test: SURPRISE RESULTS
Big time food and cooking critique David Rosengarten published the results of a performance test of 4 pro-style cooktop brands: Viking, DCS, Jade (Dynasty), and Blue Star
The testing included: boiling, simmering, deep frying, woking, and searing. Blue Star won in every category probably for reasons of its open burners, higher BTU output, and its vertically directed flame and wide flame pattern. DCS was a close second (DCS manufactures the Monogram and Jennair pro lines). Viking and Jade were left in the dust. Thermador, Dacor, and Wolf were missing from the tests and were missed by us as we would have liked to see their technology in a head to head test. No testing was done on ovens.
Blue Star is the 3 year old brand of 120 year old Prizer-Painter of Reading, PA. Prizer was the contract manufacturer of Garland's residential cooking line until Garland closed the line in 2000. Blue Star was launched to substitute for the Garland business.
