Peer Review

Peerless-Premier, a maker of ranges in the "better than coal" division, is considering closing its Belleville, IL plant and moving to cheaper locales, the AP reports........we read this as Mexico, though Peerless could also be considering sourcing the line from a Turkish or Mexican supplier.  The union believes this to be a ploy to force concessions, and certainly that must be 1/2 correct.  Why else discuss this in advance of a decision?  Peerless, though is not "peerless" and is in constant daily combat with Turkish, Mexican, and possibly Chinese insurgent suppliers, in a no-tech product segment.  We recommend that the union both make concessions and polish up the resumes.
Updated October 8
Peerless has decided to move assembly operations to Kentucky, while leaving enameling in Belleville.  We mis-understood their notice to the union as a bargaining tactic, while we have come to understand that such notice is required by law, and that the union had little chance of stopping the move.
