More Dacor layoffs

Another batch got their pink slips at the end of February. Will they pull through I hope so for those few good men left, sorry and Ladies too. I wonder if the new management ever really knew those who have now become the departed. Was a great company once upon a time perhaps the fairy tale is nearly ending.Survivor 04

No Clue

The mindset at Dacor is when someone leaves , forget them and what they did. We are now moving to the next level. That only worked once.No tradition,no respect for those who helped make Dacor a better company. Just the Benjamins I suspect. Many quality people have left that had a positive major impact replaced by apparently heartless people thinking they are doing the right thing. They will not change course , no leadership to speak of. What do you think ?

You are right

I think like you but lots of companies will change they loose good people to replace those with Knit Wits but companies today do not care about there employees. So that works both ways and this is why the industry is lacking Passion and Professional now how.To be old today does not necessarily mean to be changed but Old people today are put a side quickly to be replaced to be forgotten to be tossed a side.The bees hive way. Old bee killed and throne out. That's our society..... Poor Very poor.

Leadership is an art

Some of us have the skills to lead others just follow.The problem I see at Dacor is that the present leaders are not change agents and that is the reason the magic has gone away.It hurts to remember how, who and what made Dacor a great place, that in turn created a better world for many dedicated employees (AKA associates)How are doing these days Stallion.Regards, Survivor 04.  

Blind Support

The owner must give his full support when in fact the 90's brought to him a staff full of people who could be trusted implementing his desires since we all felt the same way.Just because someone has the same political or religious beliefs does not make them the best for what one is trying to accomplish. With all my respect to religious and political freedoms and expressions of those beliefs.

'04 Again

The people who can really make the decisions there should use the humility they say they have with values to do the right thing for their associates and have that spill over to customers and suppliers. This apparent smarter , leaner way doesn't work. Especially when you do not include all aspects of an organization and you have no personality except to threaten people. I am fired up. This is not right and someone there knows it. 

You dont know the half...

Personality is no where present at Dacor. Upper management is just running around with no clue of what to do! The only thing they are good at is brown nosing the GM.( who by the way just got promoted to V.P.), While the assemblers are left dealing with the brownnosers and making them look like they actually no what they are doing!!

Dacor

I am not sure Dacor can sustain itself given this type of management. I hear this same comment all the time from suppliers and some customers. They are living off the reputation built in the 90's but with no idea what to do or how to do it. The reaction to your comment will be defensive and a point of denial but there are few people who want to sell to or buy from the current organization.If some of those bright executives they have bumped into a range or oven from what I hear they would think it was a dishwasher. I am sorry that the employees have to be treated as they are.The value system they have counts for one family only.

Its really unfair what is

Its really unfair what is happening to the employees at Dacor.  Many of them feel that management is just looking for excuses to get rid of them because they can not afford to pay them.  Dacor has adopted a new "Quality Management" program, but all it is good for is to point fingers since none of the issues ever get solved, And who ever messed up is gone. Its a shame that so many good people in management that are left from the good ol' days have lost their dignity and are running with their tales between their legs instead of standing up for their hard working associates and themselves who helped make Dacor!!

Getting back to Dacor.

To clarify responsibly some of the comments. When the business has a severe downturn no one can expect any business to keep all of their employees and continue to lose money. That process has nothing to do with the value system established in the 1990's by Dacor. I believe that the owners do care about their employees very much but can do little to turn the economy around. Perhaps the philosophy to grow the infrastructure back in 2001 to elevated levels by managers has hurt them where they cannot respond quick enough to fix that cost issue. The message was lost once it left the CEO's office back in 2001 by others responsible. The management ladder acted myopically in dealing with internal growth to satisfy their own needs at the time.Couple that with the downturn has made it tough for them. It has been the mid level and some senior managers not including the owners who caused this. I have never seen an owner more caring of his people than the Dacor owner. He has a big job to repair those past decisions made by people no longer there from 2001 -2006.

Where we were , are & will be

Dacor did too much “expanding of resources” rather than “demanding better results” back in the late 90's and early 2000's.  The Manf. group is under complete autocratic leadership by Mr. Lean and Mr. Buy It From China. Mr. Lean is NOT a Manufacturing guy.   He is an accounting guy run amuck. Mr. Importer made wheel chairs.   Neither has any experience doing what they are doing.  People are being treated poorly because of their W2's and weeks of vacation accrued each year.   This happens to impact the most experienced and loyal people.   The owner allows it thus he is the problem.   The President and the two manuf VP's should be helped towards being made successful elsewhere and the owner and his son should move into the manuf plant and take ownership before the founder’s legacy is lost.  At this point if the market came back today Dacor would self destruct.   The in-house "on the floor" ability to make it happen is almost gone.   What is left does not care and will run for daylight at first opportunity when the job market improves, which is what will happen when the lux appliance market returns. 

Correction

First of all none of this happened until 2001. Second ,the owner and his son do not have the ability to fix the manufacturing problems that were created by Mr. Lean and Mr. buy it from China. Great names by the way. It will take a strong team for the owner to fix this.The owner works well with the right kind of team and it blends together well.He never had a personal handle on how to correctly run the operations part of the business but is a good CEO in my opinion. I have heard others say that Mr. Lean thinks Dacor builds washing machines and Mr. China thinks they build low cost dryers.

Just Fix It

 We can disagree on the “start date”.  But I must say it is nice to pretty much agree on the rest. The owner and son do need to be present in the manufacturing plant just to provide confidence.   Smart, honest, hard working leadership below them will be necessary to restore people’s dignity and reduce their fear to the point that everyone comes back to 100 percent effort.  It would be quite a challenge to fix and I believe at this point it can and should be fixed. 

Just Fix It. 2

You disagree with me. My dates are correct believe me. The owner was always encouraged to be with people on the floor from time to time and it worked with us.These Mr. Lean and Mr. China do not want him on the floor because they do not know how to follow his value system nor execute any plan properly. As for his son, related people don't always know the business ,his dad knows the business quite well.Some of the things concerning lower sales and the economy are not his fault and are very challenging.

Management

When any management team has no product based skill nor any type of "employee value" philosophy their only alternative is to blame employees for what is wrong. The problem with that is the management team is causing those issues by the way they manage. Stone age management I call it.Their next good idea will be their first.They are frustrated because they have not the skill nor the desire to help others. That is really their main job. Assist the employees to perform at a higher level through change ,mentoring and followup.They think they get paid to sit in an office ,look at reports and assign blame. You could hire a monkey to just fire people. The beauty of this is those employees being fired from the floor are the same ones who helped make Dacor a great company in the past.Not having a connection with the very people who do the hard work creates a wall put up by managers who somehow got some power and do not know how to properly handle that perceived power,only abuse it. The lean manufacturing guy or the export guy,when they have fired all the people maybe then they can do what those hard working people have done throughout the years. On second thought someone will say "where was I all this time ?" That person is the only one who can bring back sanity to his company. He knows who he is.Of course all this is my personal opinion.
