The Orange Country Business Journal reports July 25, that Whirlpool expects to close the sale of Jade by year end. Haven't we seen this episode?. The journal's list of interested and assumed interested buyers are commented on by us here:
- Haier: Looking for a brand name, but by now "Haier" is far more valuable than "Jade".
- GE: Makes no sense to us. GE buys its pro-style equipment from DCS, and has no interest in commercial.
UPDATE: July 26: A reader suggested that GE could look at Jade as a way to get out from underneath DCS sourcing issues, and GE did just purchase their Monogram fridge supplier; Diversified. Maybe he's right, but would Whirlpool sell to GE thereby throwing buddy DCS-parent, F&P under the bus? Of course they would, because I would. - Viking Perhaps for Jade's commercial business. But, what a terrible industry.
- Electrolux: Not unbelievable.
- Dacor: See Viking above.
- Wolf: When pigs fly
So there it is. Other than Electrolux, we have no idea why or who would want to buy Jade.
