Liebherr Recall: alot less important than Toyota's

Liebherr's 24" single door refrigerators are being recalled because their doors have been falling off!
There have been 13 incidents out of the 2700 units sold between 2005 and 2009. This is a failure rate of 0.48% nearly 4X worse than Viking's similar refrigerator door recall in June 2009 for which we rightfully dragged them through the coals.
Unlike Viking, which had much of its problem foisted on them by their close friends at Amana, refrigeration is Liebherr's only residential business.
How difficult is it to design a refrigerator door which doesn't fall off risking the injury of feet, children and pets?

It's a Screw, Dammit !!!
It's a bloody Screw !!! As the screw loosens the door would wobble and possibly not close properly ... so what idiot would not realize this was an indication that there is something wrong and call for service ???
No ... not for those thirteen (3) people, they waited until the hinge screw dropped out (another indication that something is askew) then they opened the door - allowing it to fall on them !!!
Gimme a break !!!
So we now know that there are thirteen (13) more people who can be characterized as "Ignorabus Imbecillitas" !!!
Yup, it means just what you think it means !!!
It may only be a screw but
It may only be a screw but it is THE screw. I am quite surprised that you are defending Liebherr in this case. This is a world renowned refrigerator manufacturer that lives on the "German quality story". It s producted in Germany, not Central Michigan....................The end user can not be expected in all cases to realize that there is a problem and deal with it. That is why the CPSC was created, to protect consumer from defective products (and from themselves in some cases)The word oblivious comes to mind, sort of like the guy that passed me in a Camry last night.
Screw Clarification ...
Rllingstne,
I am not necessarily defending Liebherr, but rather trying to point out the imbecillic aspect of a customer who ... with the door wobbling and not closing properly ... not immediately calling the provider for service, or interim remediation ...
It's like getting into your car, feeling that one of your tires is soft ... driving on it anyway onto the highway, then blaming the manufacturer when the tire deflates and damages you rim ...
Customers have some culpability here ... that's all I'm saying ... well, except that the percentage of the problem seems ridiculously low to make a big deal out of it ... it could be taken care of by a simple mailing to contact your dealer instead of stigmatizing the manufacturer with a grand "recall" !!!
Hope that makes sense, my friend !!!
