LAYOFFS: Sub-Zero Buys Another Ream in Pink

79 Wolf hourly employees were put on "temporary, indefinite layoff".  What's "temporary indefinite layoff"?  This means that they are still welcome to the Christmas Party next year, but they will only get pretzels.  They can keep the Sub-Zero parking sticker, but if they park in the lot, their vehicles will be towed.  Still getting checks, but denominated in Italian Lire.

This is the life of victims of the temporary, indefinite layoff

Wolf layoffs

Nice.  Try considering the welfare of those who have been laid off and cut the humor.  This is not a time for jokes or sarcasm.  These are the only 78 to have been laid off in the hourly union workforce at Sub-Zero Wolf since the beginning of the economic downturn.  I am hoping for a rebound of the housing market sometime in the next 3-4 years.  Until then employers like Sub/Wolf and the unions that represent the workers there will have to work at making accomodations to ensure the viability of the business and the continued employment of as many shop floor employees as is possible.  This is a large and painful task, not an amateur comedy hour.

Wolf Layoffs

Have we lost our senses of humor?  Sub-Zero still has a sense of humor, otherwise they wouldn't have created the term "temporary indefinite layoff".In anycase, I was making fun of SZ not the employees.  The speed with which companies throw survivors out of the lifeboat is breathtaking.  I'm a fan of the 4 day or 3 day week, or the buyout.  Pain should be enjoyed by everybody equally.

Agree

I am with you oh great one. Keeping a smile on one's face helps keep us young and anti-neurotic. Keep up the good work. Could you get to do a standup routine at KBIS this year ? I have some personal experiences you could use. The bad one's to boot. We've totally lost it when we can't seem to smile from time to time. I do not think though that the union plays any part in a company creating jobs. Did you here the one about the guy who had 12 patents approved but none of them ever worked in a product ? Talk about Dilbert !!!

Sigmund -II

Please explain to all of us the role the union has in creating jobs at SZ/W or anyplace for that matter. Please do not include the union rep jobs created to smooze managers to feather bed more jobs. Do not include union lobbyists that look to stymie productivity in the workplace to enhance the roster of employees.Do not include the union dues you obviously pay that is given to loyal lobbyists to spend on Senators that create work for waiters and cooks or for legal secretaries for the lobbyists. You are probably in over your head on this one but I think you do mean well and that is good.

Sigmund

Look Sigmund , when you start signing the front of the checks then you can earn the right to tell me what to do.The unions in the midwest and especially in the cheese belt need to learn what productivity is. No one owes any of us anything in life. That humor as you put it is the truth. Wake up and learn to handle adversity like most of us have . It is apparent you haven't up to this point. Are you too busy attempting to do less for more ? You wonder why as a country we have trouble ? Roll with the punches we are given. You don't have nail holes in your hands.

Layoffs

Temporary= 1 day to 12 months  Indefinite= Not sure when the temporary status begins  Layoff= You have lost your ability to take care of yourself financially  We will get back to you soon.  Soon- whenever.  I am sorry to hear of the layoff. Keep the faith.
