Kudos, Kudos, Kudos !!!
What excellent foresight to get the opinions of the participants up front and personal, all the while proving once again that "... a picture is worth a thousand words ..." and that "... seeing is believing ..." !!!
I was impressed by the candor many shared, and not too surprised that some took the "company line" and lauded the show ...
Those who candidly expressed disappointment made an interesting observation that Saturday traffic was off, when one might think it would be the opposite !!! Could it be that the "traffic" on Friday was from the folks who came and covered the show in one day and went home ???
I was particularly interested in the the comment by one manufacturer that they were not concerned that they saw few independent dealers attending ... then t rationalized that it was because of their sales force's responsibility to touch base with them ... It is quite disconcerting because it is well known that some dealers have been without a sales rep since January !!!
I was particularly interested in the NKBA comments, which was obviously a very well-rehearsed and often delivered statement !!! I sincerely hope that they do not believe everything said there !!!
Thanks, Advisor, for your service to all of us who could not, would not, or weren't allowed to go ...
Your presentations and commentary were epic !!!
Video Notes
Thank you, thank you for that, but a few corrections:
No statements were rehearsed (at least for us), none of these shoots were scheduled events, and nothing was cut. We bumped into everybody and stuck a camera in their faces. The NKBA statement sounded great, because he's really good at speaking extemporaneously. The only discussion in advance of the shoot was whether he was prepared to answer how the show was going while the show was going and before the numbers were in. He made the right decision.
Most of the people who said that the show was great on video, were clearly having a great show. People specifically targeting lower end, seemed to have problems.
There were a few guys who honestly were not thrilled with the show, and said so. Don't assume that those were the only guys being honest.
Satisfaction is Always Relative ...
The first chap you had on was "excited" but then he had some things to be excited about, as opposed to the Alfresco chap who expressed the despair of some manufacturers quite succinctly !!!
I've said it before, and I'll say it until someone listens ... if K-Biz does not figure out how to reinvent their show, or bring people in who know how to, they will become irrelevant and even fodder for CES, which would be a mistake !!!
