KBIS 2009 DanceCard is HERE!!

In preparing the 2009 KBIS DanceCard we have added fact where only whispers roamed.  Where 2008 saw north of 1000 exhibitors, 2009 currently has only 599.  Where 2008 saw just south of 100 appliance exhibitors, 2009 currently has just over 50.  Print your DanceCard and use to wipe away your tears.
Because of the catastrophic depopulation of the show, we suggest that all (any) attendees bring water, an emergency foil blanket, and a signal flare. 
The recent addition of a global swine-flu pandemic which will depress international travel will make this an annis horribilis to remember.

As elsewhere stated:More young people than ever    More energy    Less of a Lawrence Welk atmosphere    Buyers not lookers, Chicago is ho hum and could care less about ye another convention, Vegas is sitting on slots and fanny paks.    Business is where you find it guys, you make your own action....get over it.

Lost in Vegas

What part of Vegas are you speaking about ? You must mean the local bingo game that you attend. Sonny , some older folks will work you under the table and probably know their job quite well. You should respect your elders.

I'm no spring chicken but I wish I was in my 30's sometimes ... especially when I have to reach for the oil can to get out of bed ... as long as I could know what I know today !!!

I agree that Chicago is what you make it, but Vegas is a venue which is more user friendly and, with all those youthful sales reps a manufacturer could easily turn participating in @ a Vegas trade-show into an opportunity to "perk" those reps who particularly set themselves apart !!!

  Why do you think CES goes there each and every year ???

... but incentivizing a show in Vegas as a "perk" seems like a good idea to me ... more to do in a concentrated proximity than anywhere else ... and @ the same time it would teach the premium of conducting oneself responsibly !!!

  I read in the paper yesterday that the "normal flu season" can be linked to 36,000 deaths a year on average. We are talking the flu that everyone gets from time to time. I never read about that before in the news as being an epidemic. Don't get me wrong, I don't want 36,000 people dying, but they say it happens every year. I am guessing the huge reaction we are getting is based on a fear of not reacting and the 1% chance of something bad happening. Not a terrible idea in itself. See you in Atlanta!!

A Blameless Solution for K-Biz !!!

I just heard on ESPN that Texas Governor has issued an Emergency order and has suspended all interscholastic sporting events until May 11th ... that Mexico will play qualifying soccer games without a crowd ... and that Mexico NASCAR is canceling a race ... all because of the Swine Flu !!!

So, how about K-Biz saves face and avoids further embarassment and bad press in this "annis horribilis" and gets the Georgia Governor to do the same ... especially because it will be full of international peoples ???

  Then anyone who was still daft enough to still be planning on going could not go and write the costs off as a business loss !!!

I was wondering just last night if the Swine Flu situation would cause some who were teetering on a last minute decision to go or not ... all those pictures of the SARS-like masked masses and an international population @ the show is a little daunting to some, and thought provoking ... especially to those with medical conditions !!!

I wonder how much this is being blown out of proportion and what the same statistics would be for just the normal flu virus. Maybe the government just wants to be ahead of a potential problem. Makes good news on all the news channells though. Fills the time. My guess is some people will choose not to go to the show to be safe. Some people have actually stopped crossing streets because three people have died in that manner just in the last week !!!!!

I have my doubts about it being an invalid concern, especially when the Cruise Ship Lines have suspended going to Mexico and many flights are suspended as well !!!   I honestly think being way out in front of something like this could prevent the 800+ deaths from SARS a while back !!!   With spring here and many with allergies, I know I've felt uncomfortable sometimes with someone coughing and sneezing in my proximity ... What about all the physical contact @ a Show, the stale air, the sloppy bathrooms, and eating conditions (including food samples prepared as part of demos) ???
