Indesit Exposure: Exclusive
In the 45 days since Ultra 8 closed their doors on June 15, it was expected that Ariston's parent company, Indesit, Europe's 3rd largest appliance maker, would step in, pick up the pieces of its distributor Ultra 8, take on Ultra 8's obligations, and continue to grow the business in this, the largest appliance market in the world. Knowledgeable sources tell us au contraire that in fact after 45 days Indesit has yet to find its ass with both hands.
After 45 days:
- no communication has been made to the service network, which incidentally is owed nearly $100,000. Warranty work has ceased.
- no communication has been made to the distributors, at least to the ones we have reached.
- orders booked before June 15 and handed to Indesit remain unshipped
But to add insult to liquidation.....it's August, and in Italy August is shutdown. So, now we can click it up to 75 days before a decision CAN be made and likely 90 days before a decision will be made.
UPDATE: Connected sources tell us that Indesit has unofficially communicated that it WILL pick up the reigns, will meet its service obligations, will start shipping against orders next week (August 13), will respond "positively" to the service issues shortly, and will soon officially communicate to the market. Delays were caused by Indesit's fear of the American legal system.
A well founded fear, actually, based on true events some 63 year ago when just 12 members of the Army's 386th Litigation Unit landed at Anzio and pinned down the entire German 3rd Panzer Grenadier and 71st Infantry Divisions under a hail of Restraining Orders, and Claims based on Loss of Consortium, Illegal Searches and Seizures and Trespassing. Within 2 weeks the German Army didn't have two Reichspfennigs to rub together.
UPDATE August 4: Response from Indesit Director of Communications
"We are totally aware of the situation arising in the North American market. We are managing it in order to reduce the impact on our clients and minimize the consequences on our products and brands. We give all the necessary support to our service network."
