HIRING: Sub Surfaces

Sub-Zero is hiring back 165 workers in Wisconsin and 40 in Arizona to restart the 2nd shifts in those 2 plants. All workers should be back on the job by November.
Sub-Zero claims increased home selling and remodeling is driving the demand.

What explains this?
Who is buying?
Are we seeing a return to a feeling of wealth by folks who are more stocks than salary?
Are we seeing a return of confidence and security to folks who were unsure of what the future held?
Is this just a situation where the 50% capacity reduction which resulted from eliminating the 2nd shift, was not able to meet the demands of a 35% or 40% sales drop after working off all the inventory?
Is that 2nd shift going to be working a 5 day week?

On accurate feedback it looks like SZ/Wolf has had a good spike in business. Hooray for them. They are a good company focused for many years on doing the right thing. I hope their business continues to thrive.
sub zero upping production
Well, Sub Zero needs to produce some more product based on their current two month lead time for new orders. However, I do think that they probably reduced production beyond even the current dismal level of demand, thereby creating a product shortage even in soft times. Sure, there has been a slight increase in demand but I don't see the super times of a few years ago returning anytime soon. The newly rich are still sitting on the sidelines (since they are no longer rich) and even the old money people are still holding back on investing in new kitchens. Sub Zero does need to replenish their unusually low inventory and perhaps even retailers low inventories but I think that this is not indicative of the good times being back. Not yet, at any rate!

... are you suggesting that this move is only to replenish inventory ???
If so, I guess those employees called back had better be signing their timecards in pencil, eh ???

I pride myself on being a pretty well-informed businessman and information junkie ... and ... since I have been recuperating, I have had even more time than normal to keep track of things in this dismal economy ... I honestly have to say that I have not heard, seen, or read any report indicating that home sales and/or remodeling are anything but dismal !!!
Think about this ... unemployment is tickling 10%, foreclosures are up drastically, and bankruptcies are increasing exponentially ... so, who are these people buying homes and/or remodeling existing properties with SUB ZERO & WOLF products ???
Did someone find out where Bernie Madoff & Alan Stanford buried those billions ???
I'm certainly pleased some SUB ZERO & WOLF folks are getting back to work ... that's never a bad thing ... but this sounds a lot like shining a flashlight in my eyes and telling me everything is "sunny" outside !!!

That all must have voted for "Obama blame Bush for everything" for President. I think they ran inventories to near nothing and let us see if this spike lasts longer than through the holidays. This hiring may be a result of others taking vacation at the holidays and retirements. I like you see no increase in sales to justify this by itself from anyone.

Sounds like an Obama Staff meeting on any subject. Amazing how much I like you and we are so far apart on politics AA. A President needs to make decisions to be able to make a mistake or two. Not just say "we need to do this , we need to do that" Obama is an idealist , not a leader.
