GE Oven Recall

GE is Voluntarily recalling 244,000 built-in ovens branded, GE, GE Proile, GE Monogram and Kenmore because of 28 incompetent homeowners who had slight cabinet damage when the super-heated gasses of a self-clean cycle leaked from their ovens.  Why were the homeowners non compos mentis?  Leakage only occurs in units for which the oven door was removed and incorrectly re-attached.  A problem door install is identifiable by the fact that the door COULD NOT FULLY OPEN!!!  These boobs executed a 500°C self-clean cycle in the center of their home, where their family lived, in an oven with a door that neither fully opened nor fully closed.
No injuries were reported.

See CPSC Release.

Well i agree GE should have

Well i agree GE should have had a better quality control over their ovens but here's a thought instead of self cleaning how about taking the time to clean it yourself it takes a lot less time it's an oven pull the shelfs scrub it down with organic non toxic cleaner. I mean seriously you save quite a bit in energy doing it your self. Our's broke from having cookie dough fall all over it we just got some new maytag parts and had it repaired. But would never think of using it's self clean mode.

GE

The GE problem is a design and reliability issue. The units tested in quality may in fact have worked. If you don't want a self clean oven that is your choice . I agree with you that self clean is a nagging issue. Tripping hi limit switches , heat marks etc.Everyone I know has had an issue with their self clean.

Not Supposed to Happen

Anyone who has ever been involved in oven design knows this is not supposed to happen.Unless the latch locks the oven control will not work in self clean. What happened ????? I can't believe this got by GE's quadry of legal and safety people.
