GE Horizontally Integrates Diversified? Say what?

In a move contrary to everything we thought we knew, effective January 10, GE has acquired Diversified Refrigeration, of Selmer, Tennessee, from the Manitowoc Company. Diversified, with 420 employees is the maker of all of GE Monogram's built-in refrigerators. The purchase may put Monogram in a better competitive position vis-à-vis Viking, Wolf, with their own production, and Thermador (current units by Whirlpool but new units are from BSH's Turkish factory).
