GE: A Christmas Miracle in Louisville!

GE announced Monday that GE's Appliance Park in Louisville will be the location of a new line of efficient washers and dryers.  The decision is expected to result in 400 new jobs when production begins in 2012.

We applaud the decision, and are thrilled for the people of GE, and Louisville, but what prey-tell drives the decision?

  • Could Kentucky possibly have sweetened the pot with tax rebates and supports to offset the labor rates of Mexico?
  • OR, is GE holding their cards close to their vest, not sending this project to it's Mexican partner MABE because the future of GE Appliances may not include either GE or MABE?

........and this was supposed to be good news.

Mixed Message ???

If you read the article I posted in the Forum about GE still being up "For Sale" this might puzzle you, but then as Advisor so aptly opined, this is indeed a mixed message, possibly only deciphered with the help of a Ouija Board !!!

The "Smart" appliances predicate themselves on two (2) premises ... (A) Americans are lazy - so lazy that they don't want to add soap suds every time they wash ... and (B) Everyone buys in bulk ...

Well, we know Americans are lazy, bug THAT lazy ???   ... and what happens when the tubing from the resevoir gets clogged in the more humid climates ???Everyone DOES NOT buy in bulk !!!   Even if Costco is successful in getting the government to allow Food Stamps to be used in their stores, how in earth are these people going to afford the inflated price of the appliance ???

I agree that GE may just be teeing one up for a potential suitor ...
