Dacor Seeks Promised Land: UPDATED WITH DACOR RESPONSE

Dacor is moving its corporate headquarters 30 minutes south (if driven in the weee hours of the morning when traffic is light), from Diamond Bar, California to the Plaze Tower in Costa Mesa, CA, having signed a "long term lease".  The Plaze Tower overlooks the ritzy South Coast Plaza Mall to the west, the John Wayne (Orange County) Airport to the South, and just across the street from a TGI Fridays......which does not use Dacor products in its kitchen.  We imagine that Dacor took advantage of recessionary rental rates for the up-market move.

While production will remain wherever it is currently, a 30 minute southern shift WILL result in many folks opting out of the company instead of either moving closer to the new HQ, or joining a life shortening Southern California commute.  Is this a layoff by other means?  Does a 28 mile relocation protect Dacor from paying unemployment benefits to employees who opt out?  Maybe none of this was factored into the decision, but we have to ask.

DACOR RESPONSE:
Now, while a few people have separated from the company for various reasons over the past few months, zero jobs will be lost because of the move, which will in fact reduce many employees commute times substantially, as well as make the new showroom and training facility easier to access for visitors and customers.

Also, as mentioned in the press release, Dacor’s new home was attractive for having earned the LEED-EB Gold Certification for its environmentally friendly construction and operation, which is consistent with Dacor’s continued focus on operating in more environmentally sensitive ways.

APPLIANCEADVISOR.COM RESPONSE
Who thinks of this stuff? Who suggested that a company would load everything in boxes and move 28 miles, simply to reduce the head count?
That idiot would be me.  I apologize to Dacor for the clumsy presentation of the news.
Sometimes the news is just good.  Congratulations to Dacor for the move.

Dacor moves to cheaper digs

Yes, advisor, Dacor did get a good deal on the rent and is realizing substantial annual savings by moving to the OC.  While there is no showroom yet, there are plans to build one.  I will opt to view this decision in a positive light in that it means Dacor's move indicates they see a promising future ahead of them.  Maybe their crystal ball is working better than we had thought.
