Bosch Recall

BSH is recalling on a voluntary basis, certain models of dishwasher manufactured between 1999 – 2005.
An electrical component in the dishwashers can overheat, posing a fire hazard. There have been no injuries reported.”
"BSH Home Appliances has received 51 reports of incidents, including 30 reports of fires resulting in property damage. No injuries have been reported."
This recall of 476,500 dishwashers is driven by issues with the control panel.  The control panel will be replaced free of charge.

Well lets see Bosch 476,000

Well lets see Bosch 476,000 units the other was it about 2.3 million as I recall. Sounds to me like a bad batch of parts made the wrong turn in facility were they are built.

Wrong Turn

Not necessarily a wrong turn but more like a batch of parts that may have some intermitent failures that  are inside of the early mortality rate but outside the scope of production testing. Poor design reliabilty procedures by all parties.I have personally seen this but not in the past 15 years.

RECALLS/Faulty Appliances

Listen up, everybody: The residential appliance marketplace is large enough that a new product can be brought to market, gain "insant" fame (for better or worse), and sell tens of thousands of units before any realiable evidence of faults become apparent. This is the case even with strenuous r&d and testing.Don't get me wrong, many of the manufacturers fail to be thorough enough, usually based on costs. My new in 2002 Bosch DW blew the circ. pump after just 18 months, with some of the control buttons failing after just 3 months! (Don't ask about replacing the pump...it is more expensive than a new DW! If you want realiability, stick to the mid-to low priced appliances, looking at models developed based on previous generations!applianceguru1@gmail.com

HUH ????

I simply cannot believe your response. That attitude is obviously part of the reason unsafe products make it to the market place. That and the lack of Reliability or Safety Engineers at some of the manufacturers involved. I do believe that the biggies do their homework and sometimes something may get past them, but not often.. I do believe each manufacturer of appliances does concern themselves with safety for sure and reliability to the point of understanding it. What does help is the componentry reliability testing done by the great supplier base in the industry.

Bosch dishwasher recall

Due to the state of the economy will Bosch follow GE and Maytag and offer a rebate to purhace a new dishwasher, intead of fixing a four to ten year model. Between the cost of the control board and paying service to make the exchange, they should be able to offer a $150.00 rebate and break even. The customer has a choice to upgrade, and the dealer, distributor, and Bosch all make money on the new sale.  Let's make lemonade with lemons.  Murg

Hmmmmm.

So much for the integrity of standing behind their products. Here is a little carrot , buy our next "good" product. I bet the people who designed this lemon have the accomplishment stated quite differently on their resume don't you think ? Ready , fire aim.

My Two Cents

This problem with recalls and lack of improved technology for consumers that you percieve Mr. Advisor in my humble opinion comes from a few very important strategic issues that companies who perceive greatness because of consumer demand in the ninties became a product of their own delusions. Many of the smaller ($25-$100 million) companies who grew decided to slow down their development of cutting edge technologies because of the risks they had been willing to take they stopped doing. Instead their course of action was to now stamp out some of the new up and comers by threatening to pull their products from dealers and distributors who would take on the next group of up and comers willing to bring on some leading edge technologies. That squelched some very good technologies that were not allowed to develop as some those earlier companies were allowed to do. They have cut their technology staffs and in some cases have ceased new technolgy because of the lack of technical support they dumped or the risk on new investment. The biggies take their time because of the mounds of attorneys that must review and review to the inth degree because of potential liabilities due to frivilous lawsuits. Stagnation caused by success in the smaller high end guys. There are no longer hungry. Legal stagnation by the biggies. Hopefully someone will break the log jam. However the small monopolies must be broken and dealers need to take on some of the ones with new fresh ideas as the ones before them.
