BANKRUPTCY: Franklin Chef Files Under Chapter 11
Franklin Industries, distributor of Franklin Chef brand, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on September 11.
Their telephone number 718.499.0020 refers to a special message referring to the filing. The special message also refers to the website for service. The website indicates "site under construction" but otherwise all links (if there were any) are disconnected, and there is no reference to "service".
The Franklin Chef brand is marked by compact, imported appliances which were neither necessities (wine cellers, compact fridges, ice makers, etc) nor luxuries (lower cost, unimpressive design).
How did Franklin Chef distribute their products? What were their problems? Will they ever be opening their doors again? 4 days after their Chapter 11 filing, but no information on the website..........this does not make us optimistic.
Franklin Chef came to our attention in 2006 when they first appeared at KBIS.
UPDATE Sept 15: Website is now updated. All Franklin Chef customers are now officially out of Warranty.
- "By virtue of this event, Franklin Industries will be unable to provide warranty services for products purchased prior to September 11, 2009 ("Pre-Petition Purchase").
That includes products purchased on September 10. That's a fine how-do-you-do.
Consumers which purchased product on or before September 10 can file a claim for service costs with the New York bankruptcy court.
Should Franklin be reorganized or liquidated? Any decision by the court which eliminates warranty liability is a signed death warrant. It would seem to us that the only thing more unfortunate than a customer before September 11, would be a customer after September 11.
