Average Americans Smarter than Most Scientists, so says average Americans
Pew Research released a survey of Americans and Scientists once more showing how the common gas station attendant and elevator operator is endowed with an inate common sense missing from the ivory towers of academia.
GREEN HOUSE WARMING
- 51% of American non-scientists disagree with most scientists.
They either believe there is no warming (11%), or that warming is driven by natural causes (36%), or are incapable of forming thoughts (balance)
- 84% of Scientists, most of whom have actually studied the subject, think warming is "mostly because of human activity"
Equally fascinating...............
EVOLUTION
- 68% of American non-scientists disagree with most scientists
They believe in evolution driven by a supreme being (22%), do not believe in any evolution at all (31%), or are incapable of forming thoughts (balance)
- 87% of Scientists, most of whom have actually studied the subject, think evolution was driven by natural processess.
Monkey's!!! Please.
See complete survey.
Our take. Trust those who have spent years of study actually learning about a particular subject? That's so yesterday.

I'm with you on the grills
I have been in the same predicament on grills. Searched in vain for a line of grills that was reasonably priced and made in the USA. I came up empty except for the Weber Summit series which looks good, grills good but is not all stainless steel. The cabinet is painted. I would think with the automation available and people looking for jobs someone could build a grill like the one Broilmaster is offering but make it here in the good old USA.... Until then, I'll be selling the premium Webers.
Outdoor Grills
The problem with the grills is not so much the labor but the extremely high price of materials , mostly stainless. I believe China must somehow subsidize the cost of the stainless 304 series for those manufacturers because we or you could sell grills but as a producer of the grills we would have to sell at our cost if we wanted to produce the grills here and be competitive in the market. I think the days of the $2,000.00-$2,900.00 30'' grills are over. I believe that Weber may do some of their production in China . Kind of mixing and choosing while keeping most of their jobs here. A sound strategy but unfortunate for the specialized producers that rely on a more focused product offering. I had one store in So. Cal selling what is called a Bull grill , they specialize in outdoor islands and grills tell me they use a 308 marine grade of stainless. Never heard of 308 in sheet steel Could that be true ?I think grills are more of a commodity as opposed to a luxury in terms of price points. A hard sell at $2,000.00 ,easier at $895.00.Are the high end appliances the next import target ?
a few more posts should do it......
I am delighted that A.S. is starting to display the type of behavior that should have a serious impact on how he is seen by others on this site. He has taken quite a number of shots at a former employer of his which he said should go back to the management team it had in the late 90's. Well, there's a heaping serving of self-interest! The attempts to seek re-employment there make his attacks seem more than a little hypocritical.
From what I understand, he walked away from a pretty generous package (401K, ESOP, etc.) because he thought the grass was greener elsewhere. Time to move on, amigo....that ship has sailed and is better off for the disembarkation.
There are alot of very good people working very hard at many companies in this industry in these troubling times. Taking shots at any of them seems pretty shoddy and, in some cases, disingenuous.
Don't be too disappointed if I don't respond to your inevitable rejoinder. You seem to find ALOT more time to spend here than I can!
See Folks and Outdoor Grills
I apologize to the good people on the site. This diatrabe will only get more insulting from the other end. You see , some people refuse to see what is going on within their organizations. But for a moment imagine a company with no profit and within several years it becomes a double digit net profit , yet people are abused as the profit is not good enough. Some can take it and I have seen grown men cry from the abuse they receive. Broken and careers shattered as a result. The rejoinder will be more forceful. I would clearly like to get back to the appliance business on this site. AA has produced a great site. So let's change the tone. I have shopped the market and see nothing in terms of outdoor grills that seem to be produced here that are selling. Do any of you see the same ? 30'' grills selling at Bull for $1,595.00. All stainless. Others are purchasing their grills for $600.00 from overseas in that size. That cannot be made of 100% stainless and produced here. No profit. Many more jobs to be lost. Wall Street will make out. No job increase. We are in for a long ,deep recession for the job market. What do you think ?
Well My Good Friend.......
Good friend?
Talk about missing the point.... I am not who you have assumed I am.
Nevertheless, what a crock! You use a blog to throw out garbage that cannot be disproven because you think you can outpost someone when they tire of your quantity over quality/veracity approach? Your rationalized recollection of events is jawdropping. Never took anyone back, huh? Ask Bob L. the next time you talk to him. Maybe he has a better memory.
How many parties, weddings and baptisms did you guys go to together where you overheard that comment?
I'm going to snap my fingers now, and you're going to wake up feeling totally relaxed..........
History Reader
I am wondering what has happened to History Reader and his .10% diatrabes. The comments I made about myself were correct. The comments made about your organization were made mostly by the good people who worked there both during but more importantly after me. Instead of concerning yourself with protecting a legacy you should just see what is going on. You were never very good at that. When you had misguided people you never knew how to deal with it. Same as when you let good people get away because of how some were treated. We had enough of that Bull S**t. The success was in spite of you.Hard for you to admit right ?Other good people did the hard work.
History II
Sorry Stallion .... looks like History didn't take the bait. Too bad, I was looking forward to reading another heated debate between you too. Helps pass the time on long summer days.
Cohiba and HR.
I am leaving the cooking appliance business for good. It is truly time for me to move on ,even from this site. I wish everyone well and truly hope that the economy will make life better for everyone including HR's company. I am certain the site will flourish without me. Take care all of you fine professionals. I have learned from most of you and hope I added something from time to time. I must concentrate on the good we will be attempting to do going forward. Looking back at the great times and people I have met is a blessing. Those who know me can call or write.I do not regret anything I have experienced in this fine industry.I learned a lot from those 2 infamous brothers that I apparently have a love /hate relationship with. Here is to the both of you.I learned the most though from all of the fine people I have worked with these past twenty five years in this business. Treating others with respect and dignity even in tough times was the best that I learned.Regardless of how good our products and performance was. You can't take away friendships and respect. We had a bunch of that for sure.
Stallion ....leaving???
I got news for you Stallion ... the appliance industry is like the mafia, you never get out. Besides, who's going to fill the empty pages of this comment section without your wit and wisdom. Anyway, it sounds like you must have landed another lofty position for big $$$ and will have to focus on a new industry for a change. I'm sure we'll all miss you (except maybe History). Good luck!
Cohiba
I am certain History Reader will not miss me. They have gone to the next level without me. Talk to you soon. I will be out of pocket for the next several days. Take care. Thanks for the luck ,I will need some of that too.
Well....Well.....Friend....
Like I said, just a few more posts.....
I would like to see YOUR face when/if you find out that I am not who you think I am.
The incredible passive-aggressive content of your e-mails should give others here some insight into your true nature when you use terms like "good friend " and then put out this type of garbage. I only chose to defend a person who I believe is a much better one than he who is besmirching him. How does that work into your Christian values?
I am sorry if your career moves were poorly thought out or ill-timed, but you are the master of your own fate. By the way, I have not a religious bone in my body, so you are definitely barking up the wrong tree!
I will respect the AA's policy and refrain from name-calling. I think your last couple of posts have made the point of my headers.......
Have a nice life! I won't respond to whatever comes next. I just wanted to see if you would grab the bait so I could give folks a look into the darkness.
Strange
Apparently, plain English isn't working........
so I will offer you one opportunity to ask the Appliance Advisor if I am the person you believe yourself to be addressing. I expect him to honor his policy of not divulging identities while letting you ask " Is it....? one time. Go ahead. Your ranting is going to make you look pretty foolish when it finally dawns on you that I am not he. I am just someone who knows the truth and wanted to show you up for what you really are. Self-admittedly, you have passed along things you "have heard" from others along with your perverted versions of the facts, all in an attempt to belittle a fine company with whom you have sought to re-engage several times and been rebuffed. If for some desperate reason you were re-hired, you would be singing its praises on high, and you know it. Time to get a grip on reality, pal!.
Point of Order
History Reader, to confirm your suggestion to Appliance Stallion.
Appliance Stallion may have one opportunity to ask the management of ApplianceAdvisor.com your (History Reader's) identity OFF LINE, by email (Not of course on this Forum or anywhere on this site).
If Appliance Stallion is correct, we will say "Correct".
If Appliance Stallion is incorrect, we will say "Incorrect".
We will of course honor our policy. As well, we will not report on this site or to History Reader if Appliance Stallion ever makes this request.
If this is what you had in mind, or wanted different rules, confirm or change.
We have before connected users, by request and/or approval of both users, who wished to continue their conversations offline. History Reader's suggestion will have no impact on ApplianceAdvisor.com's credibility.
Great.
Appliance Advisor .. I am glad you clarified your policy to others. I am sure that by the text and literary content I am aware of the person history reader is , as do many others. My intent was never to have this dialogue with him on your site although I am sure some have fun with it and others who have been affected understand it very well.My only difference with you AA is I don't like rumors and as you do I only report fully factual information. I hope history reader does the same and will continue to do so.
Is this TMZ?
Get over it, just sleep with each other already. Stop the fighting, hell, even I'm pretty sure at this point who you both are.
Fore.
I know you .How is your golf game ?

Not surprised , everyone is too busy attempting to stay above water.Times are tougher and everybody is busy working or trying to make a decent living.Take care. I hope you are personally doing well.

Huh ?
I lost my magic decoder ring. What does this mean?
KHEA
Call letters for Kitchen High End Appliances. A blog within a forum for truth, justice and the American way. I think what I previously stated about an organization has proved my point. I will report accurate info as I get it . Over and Out..... Boy , I must be bored !!!!
Truth About the Economy
Since I am aware of several companies producing/selling at 1995 levels, where is the improvement in the economy except at Wall Street which apparently has no more of a connection to the job /manufacturing market than I do to being a brain surgeon. Thoughts by others ? Where do we go from here ? One organization I know is selling their grills at 1992 levels. Not good for anyone. Is the economy being pictured like the Greek statesman Desmothenes talks about ?
What goes up must come down
Stallion ... while I would usually agree that deflation is not a good thing, I vaguely remember almost all of the majors taking huge price increases (in some cases double-digit) during the historic boom in oil prices during 2008. In each case, thy presented fancy graphs and powerpoints justifying their price increases by the impact of higher priced oil. Yet, when oil came back down, did they reduce their prices? Not. That said, I would agree that rolling back to '95 levels is a pathetic reminder of a stagnated indutry.
Agree
I am sure they shoved increases down your throat. That said,I agree with you 100% or more.
truth II
Who is Desmothenes? did you mean Demosthenes?
Demosthenes Yes--Dram
He has some very great quotes , especially in getting people to look at what they are thinking. I think the economy and some people we have all worked for follow this quote "the easiest thing of all is to deceive one's self, for what a man wishes he generally believes to be true" Such as the "economy is better" or "the change was for the better". For the most part these days people think the way Demosthenes speaks. Time for a reality check since I really worry about the economy. This is the first time in my life that I believe business leaders and government leaders have not much of a clue. When they comment on what the experts say, what is an "expert" ? I just think we are not as smart as we think. Money by the way is not a measure of one's intelligence.
High End Brands. Assembled in America !!!!!
Certainly the high end brands of Viking ,Sub Zero, Dacor and others can brag that they are "Made in America" , however the Southern California high end manufacturers purchase a good majority of the components and some raw materials from import manufacturers and has a program to increase that. Granted that some of the components are not produced at all in the US , therefore the Marketing information should read "Assembled in the USA" Most economists and politicians will talk about the North American economy. That includes Canada and Mexico so we must be careful with the words. North America does not neccesarily help the USA.I think there should be truth in this advertising though. I think a law already exists concerning that.

For the sake of the children, (we have so many children reading about appliances) let's not call each other names. It sets a bad example.

The definition of(Holmes) in the context I used is " a noted jurist known for liberal opinions" kind of tongue in cheek for old iron man. A joke so to speak. To some of you a compliment.
