An Anniversary of Life Given - An Update of My Incredible Past Year !!!
Back in September, "Advisor" gave me the opportunity to tell you all of my Liver Transplant and ask you all to consider being a donor. Well, today is my thirteen (13) month anniversary of my life giving transplant, so I thought I'd give you an update on my experiences ...
When I came home from Hospital, I was fitted with a semi-permanent IV, thru which my wife was able to give me daily anti-biotics for three (3) months to compliment the plethora medications which were to give me body every chance of accepting my donor's Liver. I gave blood tests every two (2) weeks at our local hospital so the good folks @ UPENN could monitor how my body and it's new member were getting along.
Today I am elated to report that I have been removed from two (2) of the three (3) original medications associated with anti-rejection, and the third has been reduced by 40% !!! I am on track to try and eliminate the last on in the next few months ...
As I never experienced any rejection issues, and everyone @ UPENN is cautiously optimistic about my totally being off of the anti-rejection drugs, I have volunteered to be part of a research study, which I hope will provide valuable information for the treatment of future patients. Being naturally analytical, I have to admit looking forward to participating in the study and being "debriefed" about the many changes I have noticed in my body since the transplant ...
As part of the one (1) year anniversary, we had the opportunity to meet my surgeon and other key members of his transplant/surgical team. These are the true "unsung heroes" of our society. People who do what they do, without fame, fan-fare, or even lofty titles, but in whose eyes I saw a warmth, depth, and now, the gaety of seeing me there to thank them. There is a special place in Heaven for these people !!!
Id like to thank you all for your support, kind words of encouragement, and especially if you agreed to become an organ donor, because in doing so, you may very well have the opportunity to return a guy like me, who might have passed with way too much yet to achieve, to his family, friends, and a community like we have here @ Appliance Advisor !!!
So, for all intent and purpose, since I am as recovered as recovered can be, and now looking to getting back to being a gainfully employed member of our industry, if you don;t think it too "cheeky" of me, I'll simply ask you to keep me in mind should you know of anyone able to use my experience and talents, OK ???

Great
Bob...That is just great news and I pray your journey of well being and healing continues.
Thank You !!!
I appreciate the sentiments !!! I'm reminded of the lyrics " ... what a long, strange, trip it been ..." and fortunately I've come out the other side with the encouragement of friends both near and far ... and yes, that includes everyone here !!!
More Good News !!!
I think I just started to feel myself pinch myself today, so that means it was time to share some great news !!!
The day before yesterday, my wife and I visited UPENN for one of my periodic visits and were met by the Doctor who handle my admission while in a coma thirteen (13) months ago ... we went over my blood tests and my notes ... he examined me and then came the news ...
They were of the opinion that I was doing so well, that they did not need to see me until this time next year !!!
Now, I'm part of a Research Study to assess my ability to get off of the Anti-Rejection drugs totally, so I'll be in contact with them, but it can all be handled locally ...
What an incredible journey ...
Congratulations Bob
Congratulations on reaching your 13 month anniversary! It is amazing how much progress we have made in our lfetime with regard to transplants and their lasting success. i may be dating myself, but I remember as a kid hearing about Dr. Barnard and the first heart transplant. I could not fathom how this could possibly be done.
When I got my first driver's license, I made the decision on my own to fill out the organ donation area. Most people my age didn't bother because they were going to live forever anyways...... When my kids got their driver's license I encouraged them to fill it out also. All 4 have done it.
It sounds as though the percentages jsut keep increasing in your favour. If you have not been working in our industry in the last year or two, it may have been a blessing in disguise since many of us have had a tough 2 years and many have resorted to the old standby- alcohol to make our problems go away...............lol
WE would love to have someone of your knowledge and experience working within our organization. We currently have an opening for a Rep. The commute would be a bitch for you though.
Once again Congratulations!
You were well ahead of ...
... the ever increasing awareness of Organ Donation as a way to save folks like me from a pine box ... and I thank you for it !!! I try to use some humour when I talk about it and say "... when you finished with yours, why not let someone else have them ???" It gets a chuckle but people then realize what I'm saying !!!
... and I too remember Christian Barnard as a youngster, so we're in the same boat, my friend !!!
BTW: Your comment about the "commute" makes me ask ... Where are you located ???
