Chins up gentleman and ladies for however bad it seems out there, these are the best days of your foreseeable future. Enjoy this period of downward sales, rising steel costs, falling dollars, foreclosures, mortgage fiascos, abandoned properties and layoffs, NOT by reflecting on the promise of what was, but by squinting through the mist at the darker reality soon to arrive. It don't get better than this.
So our recommendation: Pull up a deck chair, pour yourself a glass, light 'em up if you got 'em, and lean into the best quartet you will ever hear.
UPDATE: Oct 20 2007: Dow Jones drops 366 points, US$ reaches lowest exchange rate to Euro, Oil reaches record $90/barrel. And today is still the best day of days yet to come.
UPDATE: Sep 16 2008: Lehman Brothers declares bankruptcy, Merrill Lynch is acquired. Stocks fall 500 points. Oil prices have dropped, and the US$ has risen, but these are symptoms, however pleasant, of the global economic slowdown / recession not of some renewed economic health.
What is the best that we can all hope for? That, in our panicked thrashing struggling to grab anything which can keep our heads above water, we pull down with us all those who might replace us. China, the rest of Asia, Russia all with their $100's of billions of US "hard"(ly) currency.
