CATA has US OEM business, but as far as we know they do not exist as a brand.  Still some pretty impressive concept units.

TURBOCHEF
Turbochef is a commercial brand with a new owner and with cash to burn hell bent to enter the residential market.  They come to the table with what they claim to be the fastest, bestest, oven anywhere using a technology first introduced but never perfected by Thermador, Jet Impingement, which as best as I can figure is convection on steroids.  60 MPH jets of air which are constantly being redirected.  Also employs microwave, but it is not intended as stand alone microwave.
Showing off the 30" double oven with bottom convection, broil convection, rigged for either 240V, or 208V.  They demonstrated by cooking a 2-1/4 lbs chunk of beef in 8 - 9 min at 500F.  A chime bell rings at 80% of time completion to allow checking.
Of course they did not mention the 15 minutes pre-heat time.  We wonder how that rates.
The controls allow the programming of favorites.  Production is promised for September 2006.....but we do not have confirmation that this actually occurred.  Retail for the double oven is expected to be $7500.

ANTONIO MIGUEL

Antonio Miguel is a new entrant in appliances, but they have a technology to create exotic metallic designs that will keep them in the industry.  The technology allows the creation of complex metallic shapes by by spraying molten metal over a wooden form.  Take a look at the results.

DELAUBRAC
A French residential range built, they claim, from professional components.  Features Duel fuel with 10, 15, and 17K BTU sealed burners, but can adjust maximum BTU output by opening up and adjusting inside just like a pro machine.  We saw it described at the show but we don’t understand it or the benefiits.  The 48" range is priced for $17,000.  Approved USA distribution.

EVO
A cool and expensive griddle that can do anything you can do inside on your Viking and then some, including boil, braise, poach, steam, fry, grill, make a grill cheese sandwich and socialize, all with a 48,000 BTU burner which is available on a trolly, for table top use or as a built-in.

FOSTER
Foster is a a seemingly high end Italian manufacturer of sinks and appliances.  Why do so many European sink companies get into appliances?  The Foster gas cooktops are unusually gorgeous featuring recessed sealed burners and counter top flush grates.  We specifically like the single burner depth cooktops which are available in 3, 4 and 4 burner + wok configurations.  Cooktops also feature full surface grates and electronic ignition but unfortunately also fairly low performance.  The dimensions aren't US sizes, but then again, these are design driven products, so they don't seem constrained by metric standard sizes either.

HANDCRAFTED METAL
Another company invested in unusual fabrication and materials for rangehoods.
These copper units are selling for $6000 to $7000.   They claim that they will not oxidize.  The finish is created using chemicals and a blow torch. They promise a performance of 1200-1600 CFM for external blower or 400 - 600 CFM for internal blower.

PANDO
Spanish make of rangehoods.  Pando claimes that these hoods provide 770CFM, are all UL approved, and are ready to go.  As far as we can see searching for OEM business and not available in the US market.

SANYO
We have no recollection of ever seeing Sanyo at KBIS.  They came with, they claim the first top loading combo washer dryer combo. Features a built in steam function to kill all life they claim. Cycle time of 2 hours to complete wash+dry. Will be energy star rated, 23-5/8" wide, has 3 doors on top (too many I think). Sanyo's first full size appliance will be available in October for $1700.

TRUE REFRIGERATION
True continues to stay true to its strategy to be at the KBIS under false pretenses.  These are not residential approved refrigerators.
This year they showed a 24" deep fridge, UL approved for outdoor use and with a claim of a "quieter compressor".
Ture does not meet 2002 refrigerator energy standards.  I would not recommend that anyone buy one of these.

2004 Kitchen & Bath Show Introductions
TRUE REFRIGERATION
True is a maker of commercial refrigerators for commercial customers.  They are not makers of residential refrigerators, but they came to this, the residential Kitchen and Bath Show, feeling out the market and trawling for dealers who can't get Sub-Zero.  The True prototype residential refrigerator is an upright with glass shelves, supposedly quieter compressor than the true True refrigerators, all with the style and appeal of a file cabinet.  True also showed off a Beer Keg fridge UL approved for outdoor use.  None of the True products had passed energy efficiency standards required for residential use.

FRANKE
The maker of sinks enters the appliance business with a sourced built in coffee machine from Tecnowind of Italy.  Priced for around $2400 and with promised availability of Q4 2004, it has yet to reach the market as of Q1 2005.  The 12" deep unit is fully automatic and includes a coffee grinder, and is powered by a standard 110V line.
